Whether it’s a flat white, Cappuccino or a peppermint white chocolate mocha with skinny milk please (phew!), there’s nothing quite like sipping on a steaming cup of coffee. And there’s good news for coffee loving ladies because according to new research, drinking coffee boosts women’s brainpower in stressful situations – but sends men into meltdown.

Researchers from the University of Bristol have found that coffee improves women’s performance when working with others, but impairs men’s memories and slows their decision-making.

For the study, 64 men and women were put into same-sex pairs and given a range of tasks to complete, including carrying out negotiations, completing puzzles and tackling memory challenges, and told they would have to give a presentation afterwards. Half of the pairs were given caffinated coffee, while the other pairs sipped on cups of decaffeinated coffee.

And guess what? Men took longer to complete the puzzles and their performance in memory tasks were ‘greatly impaired’ if they drank the caffeinated coffee.
